Why Split Is Correct

Splitting aces gives you two starting 11s, each drawing one card. Most rule sets limit aces to a single draw per hand, so you're locking in 11–21 twice rather than playing a weak soft 12. Always split aces against dealer 8.

How the Play Changes Under Different Rules

The correct play is consistent across every common rule set for this hand.
